The living things require water, food, and the tendency to get rid of the waste in order to maintain homeostasis. Homeostasis refers to the tendency or the ability to sustain inner steadiness in an organism in order to compensate for the changes in the surroundings.  

The conditions in the body must be monitored spontaneously as the cells rely upon the body's surroundings to live and work. The human body maintaining a mean temperature of 98.6 degrees is an example of homeostasis.
